Lately it seems that the Fairview/Fairmont Outreach Board has been waiting and praying. In order to see the Outreach Program as others see it, we have embarked on a “listening tour” and have gotten advice and perspective from Sarah Miller, our former Director, and Mary Wisniewski, the office manager for the apartments. We also hope to hear from residents and Second District School staff.
Covid forced us to suspend activities but with the coming of spring there is the hope of a new beginning. A member of our Board, Pat Loutzenhiser, reached out to the Y regarding its summer day camp. We met with Y staff and with their help, registered thirteen children for camp. Thanks to generous contributions in 2020, the Outreach Board is able to underwrite the cost of transportation to the Y for summer camp. We pray that families at the apartments will take advantage of the program as other costs can be underwritten through various ways.
Without staff on board, however, the mission and dreams of the Outreach Program are on hold. The Board is beginning to discuss re-opening the Outreach Center and hiring new staff. Working at the Outreach Center is both a calling and a challenge. We trust that the Lord will lead people to fill staff positions. Continue to pray for the mission in our midst, the Fairview/Fairmont Outreach Program.
If you yourself would be interested in a staff position at the Outreach Center or know of someone who has a heart for caring, we would appreciate knowing! Please feel free to contact Chris Lafferty at 814-333-4697 or claff@zoominternet.net.
