Always accepting clean, gently used clothing!

Our clothing ministry at The Lord’s Locker

continues going strong in year two under reliable & steady leadership of Director Eileen Carpenter, her right hand side-kick Tracy Haas and the many volunteers! This ministry has produced over $500 for missions during the first three months this year! (Note that in Fall of 2016 we raised $561, and in 2017 we raised $841.) We are so thankful for all the volunteers, donations and blessings that make this ministry a success. Did you know that customers can bring in Campbell Soup Label Box tops for Education in exchange for merchandise? The Box Tops then are passed onto the Crawford County READ Program! Did you know that the consignment store Oh La La has made numerous donations to the Lord’s Locker? We have been able to help many people thru this ministry at the St. James Shelter; The Green House; The Soup Kitchen; Fairview/Fairmont Apartments; Yolanda Barco Cancer Center; The Used Shoe Drive (thru the Erie UM Alliance and All God’s Children Ministries – persons in developing countries receive the shoes to help them establish micro enterprises and provide shoes for their neighbors at an affordable price.); The Erie Rainbow Thrift Store and Chaps. Homeless people can come in and get clothing and/or a small bag of toiletries. We were able to fill a tree stand with winter hats, mittens, scarves and gloves this cold season for the taking in the hall outside Soup Kitchen! (The tree stand was made by the children and families attending Messy Church in the fall!) Thank you to all who have helped in this clothing ministry! Director Eileen says that 2nd hand gently used linens, bedding and towels are really needed if you can share!

Volunteers Needed!

We are trying to grow our volunteer base – we are having a Lord’s Locker “Orientation” on Thursday, May 31st from 10 to 12 noon. If you would please consider giving an hour or two or three hours a month for this ministry that touches so many! There are light weight jobs- sitting & standing jobs, off site jobs & on site jobs! We need volunteers sort donations; put clothes on hangers; hang clothes in appropriate room; make tags & signs for special sales events; greet customers; put announcements on social media; take trips to Erie Rainbow Thrift Store with items that didn’t sell or that are out of season; and the many other tasks that are needed to continue the success of this ministry.

If you are interested, please plan on attending the “Orientation on Thursday, May 31st! If you have any questions, please call any of the Lord’s Locker Board members: Lois Rockwell, Eileen Carpenter, Pat Loutzenhiser, Pastor Sarah, Tracy Haas or Diane Craven.

The UMW served a very large & happy crowd for the April birthday party at Wesbury Grace Center. Under the direction of Phyllis Stockton and ten Stone UMC helpers, there was birthday cake, ice cream, punch and Birthday Balloons! Smiles, singing and laughter filled the chapel as we gathered and celebrated 16 birthdays!  The foot tapping & hand clapping guitar music was shared by musician Elizabeth and enjoyed by all! Thank you to Phyllis and her helpers for sharing and continuing this long standing shared ministry with Wesbury.
