Creating a Community of Caring Christians

Mission Statement of Stone UMC

 

 

“Compelled by God's love Stone UMC is

 an inclusive community of faith,

 meeting people where they are,

connecting them with Christ and one another,

helping them live as disciples of Jesus Christ”.

  

As we work to fulfill the mission and vision of Stone UMC, as ministry teams we have identified the following priorities for the coming year.

Church Council

  1. Engage, Energize and educate lay persons for leadership in all areas of the church
  2. Be intentional in creating and maintaining inter-generational interactions, relationships and programming in worship, education, service and fellowship.
  3. Promote long term planning with short term SMART goals for all areas of ministry

      (S-specific  M-measurable  A-achievable  R-realistic  T-time based)

Staff-Parish

  1. Continue strong programming for Children/Youth/Family Ministries
  2. Find a tangible way to affirm staff who are doing excellent work.
  3. Use annual written evaluations of staff as a means of accountability.

Finance

  1. Promote and encourage stewardship as a lifestyle, helping members of the Stone faith community to recognize that everything is a gift from God and to stimulate the joyful giving of time, talent, and treasure
  2. Provide better and more varied communication of the financial aspects of missions and ministry
  1. Develop a multi-year funding plan that incorporates non-traditional approaches including self-sustaining and alternative funding sources, e.g. campaign(s), business grants, etc.

Trustees

1.      Ensure that the building and property are safe and sound with no deficiencies and that everything is in good working order.

2.      Provide a welcoming environment, inside and outside, to those who enter and pass by the church, including the Meadville Community.

3.      3.Support the participation of children, youth and families in the daily life of the church.

 

Adult Christian Education and Spiritual Formation:

1.      Establish a working committee with a regular meeting schedule.

  1. Identify and train new teachers/leaders.
  2. Offer a variety of classes, retreats, etc so that we might “meet people where they are, connecting them with Christ and one another,  helping them live as disciples of Jesus Christ”.

Worship:

  1. Plan and implement services that are welcoming for all people, particularly visitors and guests.
  2. Plan and implement services that engage a variety of types of music, visuals, preaching styles that reflects our stated mission. (see above)
  3. Encourage and educate for greater lay participation in worship.

Missions:

      1.   Establish a working committee with a regular meeting schedule

  1. Develop a consistent way to communicate and encourage participation in a variety of “hands on” mission opportunities to people with a wider range of interests and abilities.
  2. Work with other ministry teams (Adult Christian education, CYF, etc) to create educational experiences that support understanding of mission/outreach both of familiar and new missional opportunities.

Children/Youth/Family:

1.      Move from being just welcoming to Embracing children, youth and their families.

2.      Be more intentional in creating inter-generational interactions and relationships.

3.      Develop opportunities for learning, service, celebration and discipleship based on the gifts and interests of the children, youth and families.

UMW:

1.      Be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.

2.      Develop a creative, supportive fellowship;

3.      Expand concepts of mission through participation in the global and local ministries of the church, especially those that focus on women and children.
